BScPT
Sonya holds a BscPT from McGill University, graduating in 1995 and a diploma in Health Care management from the Ontario Health Care Association. (2010) Spending the first 19 years of her career in the hospital setting, working with the acute medical, surgical and intensive care populations, she gained vast experience supporting individuals restore function and quality of life despite their health challenges.
Upon returning to Nova Scotia in 2014, she knew her career path would change. Her introduction to pelvic health through working with Erika Burger, led her to realize pelvic health physiotherapy held so much potential to help individuals live a better life. Having experienced the limitations of working in the public health care system, Erika’s clinic offered a way to embrace delivering meaningful, holistic and compassionate care. Thus began her post graduate certifications in pelvic health.
As a lifelong learner, Sonya is constantly pursuing learning opportunities related to pelvic health and rehabilitation. Course work to date has covered incontinence, dyspareunia, ano-rectal disorders, pelvic pain, prolapse and pessary fittings. Additionally, Sonya has received advanced education in treating: endometriosis; CPPS; post-prostatectomy, and erectile dysfunction. Self directed learning has been guided by a keen interest in pain science, trauma informed and responsive care, transgender inclusive care as well as more recently diving into peri and post menopausal topics.
Sonya is very passionate about providing clear and meaningful education and treatment that empowers her clients to fulfill their pelvic health goals. Her goal is always to meet you where you are at and establish a safe and supportive environment for your pelvic health needs to be addressed.
