Comprehensive and compassionate one-on-one physiotherapy, with a focus on manual therapy, corrective exercise and education
At The Pelvic Health Clinic, one-on-one compassionate and inclusive care is the standard. We are a body-positive clinic and believe that every body is deserving of care and clinical expertise. Movement and rehabilitation are for everyone!
Whether you are looking for some guidance while trying to conceive, during your pregnancy or in the postpartum period, our physiotherapists are here to help.
Our clinic prides itself on delivering kind, compassionate care through one-on-one appointments where your concerns are truly heard and taken into account. Your physiotherapist is here to support you during this time of great change in your life.
Orthopedic Physiotherapy can:
- Optimize your health while trying to conceive
- Feel better during pregnancy
- Prepare for childbirth
- Recover from vaginal delivery, cesarean delivery, miscarriage, or stillbirth
What does Prenatal Physiotherapy look like at our clinic?
During pregnancy, your body adapts to accommodate your growing baby (or babies!). Visiting a physiotherapist during the prenatal period can help with the prevention of pain and pelvic issues some may experience during pregnancy and help you prepare for childbirth.
Reasons to see a physiotherapist while pregnant include:
- Maintaining fitness during pregnancy
- Correction/prevention of dysfunctional movement strategies that can lead to pain
- Pain in the lower back, hips, and/or groin
- Sensation of vaginal heaviness with activity
- Leaking urine with exercise, coughing, sneezing, or laughing
- Preparing for childbirth
- Management of fatigue
At our clinic, you will receive one-on-one, individualized care. We want to know your full medical history so that we can provide you with the appropriate interventions. Your physiotherapist will work directly with you so that the exercise you are doing is safe and effective for you. You won’t be put into a group class where everybody is doing the same thing, despite their individual differences. You will be working towards your own, individualized treatment goals that are right for YOU.
What does Postpartum Physiotherapy look like at our clinic?
Whether you had your child 6 weeks ago, or 16 years ago, your body went through a tremendous physical change during pregnancy and childbirth. Tissues lengthened and you adopted new movement strategies to accommodate your growing baby. You performed the amazing feat of giving birth and then cared for your child all while recovering from vaginal or cesarean delivery.
While many postpartum supports focus on the health of your child, physiotherapy focuses on YOUR health and recovery from childbirth. Alone or in conjunction with one of our pelvic floor physiotherapists, we offer solutions to many postpartum concerns, including:
- Rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles (including symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse)
- Involuntary leaking of urine (stress incontinence)
- Rehabilitation of the abdominal muscles (including diastasis recti)
- Correction of dysfunctional movement patterns developed during pregnancy
- Pain in the shoulders, back, hips and/or groin
- Return to sport (running, jumping, golf, soccer, cycling, etc.)
We also provide care for those who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy or soon after birth. When the time is right for you, we are here to offer empathetic, supportive care while assisting you in your physical and emotional recovery from miscarriage or stillbirth.
Looking for pelvic health physiotherapy?
What to expect
Our one-on-one perinatal physiotherapy assessments/treatments are multi-faceted, but primarily utilize corrective exercise, which offers long-term solutions for our patients.
We are a body-positive clinic. We believe that every body is deserving of care and clinical expertise. Movement is for everyone! And rehabilitation is for everyone, too.
All exercise programs are tailored to fit YOUR needs, interests, treatment goals and schedule. We never shame anyone for not doing “their homework”! We are a team, working together to support your movement goals!
Please note: these appointments do not include an internal pelvic health exam. If necessary, we may discuss/facilitate a referral to one of our pelvic health physiotherapists for an internal assessment.
